Currently, Toyota’s two popular cars in India are the Urban Cruiser and the Fortuner. However, both are quite expensive, and these two cars have entirely different styles. Toyota aims to bring an affordable yet powerful SUV that fits between these two models. There is already a buzz about this upcoming car on various online platforms.
Urban Cruiser, Fortuner: Prices
The Toyota Urban Cruiser’s price ranges from Rs. 11.14 lakh to Rs. 20.19 lakh (ex-showroom), while the Fortuner is priced between Rs. 33.43 lakh and Rs. 51 lakh (ex-showroom). It is apparent that the car’s price is beyond the range of middle-class section in India, but Toyota is venturing into a more budget-friendly segment with this new car.
Features of Toyota’s New Car
The upcoming car from Toyota will be a three-row SUV, often referred to as a mini-Fortuner. According to multiple reports, although there is a resemblance to the Fortuner in terms of styling, but the overall car’s design is entirely different. In the market, this car will compete with other SUVs like Tata Safari, Harrier, Mahindra XUV700, MG Hector, and more. The car may feature a 1.5-liter petrol hybrid engine similar to the Fortuner or an innovative 2-liter petrol engine. Though the presence of diesel engine is yet to be confirmed. The car is expected to offer ample comfort and leg space, complemented by smart infotainment features for enhanced safety.
Expected Price and Launch Date
Hopefully, the car’s pickup will be satisfactory. It might offer mild off-roading capabilities. Although that depends on what special features Toyota incorporates into this car. According to sources, the starting price of the new Toyota car could be between Rs. 19 lakh and Rs. 26 lakh.
For decades long, the Fortuner has been present in India, and demands a substantial budget of around Rs. 60 lakh for an on-road purchase. If a design and power-packed car like the Fortuner can be obtained at a lower cost, it will certainly make a positive impact among the Indian customers. Especially considering several launches of such cars in the Indian market, it is anticipated that by the end of 2024 or in 2025, we might witness the arrival of this SUV.
