Tata will produce electric cars in Sanand
Currently, Tata’s electric vehicle portfolio includes four models: Nexon EV, Tiago EV, Tigor EV, and the recently launched Punch EV. Within few days of taking over the factory from Ford in Sanand, Tata has initiated the production of combustion engine cars there. This time, they plan to double the production rate and start manufacturing electric cars at the same place from April.
According to sources, Tata’s upcoming Curvv electric car will also be produced at the Sanand factory. Shailesh Chandra, Managing Director of Tata Passenger Electric Mobility Limited, stated, “We plan to start production of Nexon EV in Sanand from April. By the end of this year, we hope to launch the ICE versions of Harrier EV and Curvv as well. We have plans for some launches, so we will focus on expanding our production capacity.”
Chandra added, “Our position is very clear that we are not overly concerned about specific competitors. We are willing to collaborate with any organization investing in EV space for local development or charging-infrastructure improvement. We are not afraid of competition… we are engaging in healthy competition, and we want a level playing field.”
