MG Motor India is planning to launch a lineup of new cars in India this year, including an electric vehicle. Additionally, they are set to introduce several more models in India next year. Gaurav Gupta, the Deputy Managing Director of the company, revealed this information in an interview with a leading Indian news agency.
MG Motor is taking steps to increase its market share in the electric vehicle market in India. Currently, 25% to 30% of their sales come from electric vehicle models, while electric vehicles constitute only 2% of total vehicle sales in India. Experts in the field are optimistic about the progress in this segment, hoping to reach a 4% market share for electric vehicles in the near future.
The development of infrastructure, better understanding of battery technology, and the introduction of new electric vehicle models from various companies could contribute to achieving this goal by the mid-2025s. MG Motor entered the Indian market in 2019 and currently offers a diverse portfolio, including Astor, Gloster, Hector 5-seater, Hector Plus, ZS EV SUV, and Comet EV.
Following the success of the ZS EV launched in 2020, MG Motor has introduced the Comet EV in India last year as the most affordable electric car. At that time, it was priced at Rs.7.98 lakh (ex-showroom). However, they have recently reduced the price, and currently, it costs Rs.6.98 lakh. Additionally, they also have introduced fast-charging variants like Excite FC and Exclusive FC, priced at Rs 8.23 lakh and Rs.9.13 lakh (ex-showroom), respectively.
