In 2019, MG Motor India started its journey in the Indian car market with the launch of the Hector SUV. Besides petrol and diesel cars, they now sell two electric models in India – MG ZS EV and MG Comet EV. The British company is now set to introduce its third electric model in India, expected to be launched during this year’s festive season.

Currently, MG ZS EV and Comet EV are popular in the Indian market. Seeing their success, the company is bringing a new electric model to India. The launch is anticipated during this year’s festivities, as confirmed by MD Rajiv Chaba of MG Motor India.

At present, 25% of MG Motor’s total car sales in India come from electric vehicles. Hence, the upcoming model is expected to strengthen MG’s position in the electric vehicle market. MG is planning to increase production at their Halol plant in Gujarat. After producing 80,000 units last year, they aim to reach 90,000 units this year.

While MG currently has a certain number of cars in India, they aim to double that by 2025. This ambitious goal is part of the company’s expansion strategy in the Indian market. Though MG hasn’t provided details about how the new EV model will be, they haven’t made any statements about it either. MG showcased multiple electric vehicles at last year’s Auto Expo, including MG4 EV, Mifa 9 EMPV, and MG5.

Rumors suggest that the new model might be among these showcased vehicles. Additionally, MG Motor might launch the internationally successful Boujun Yep e-SUV model in India. Similar to the Comet EV, it features a boxy, muscular design and compact dimensions. The pricing will likely be competitive to attract a wide audience.
