The main problem with electric cars is that they take a long time to charge. To address this concern, fast charging technology has been evolved, much like the efficient fast chargers used in smartphones. The MG Comet EV, the country’s most affordable electric car, only had slow charging capabilities, previously. However, the car now comes with fast-charging technology, available in the Excite FC and Exclusive FC variants. The prices of these variants are kept at Rs. 8.24 lakh and Rs. 9.14 lakh respectively (ex-showroom).
The new FC model replaces the previous Push, Play, and Pace variants. Due to the addition of 7.4 kW AC fast charging, the charging time has reduced to 3.5 hours compared to the previous 7 hours required for a full charge with a 3.3 kW AC charger. The 17.3 kW battery pack still provides a range of 230 km on a full charge.
The fast-charging variants have some new features, including rear disc brakes, electronic parking brake, electronic stability control, hill hold control, body-colored finishing, electric foldable rearview mirrors, and a creep mode.
To buy the top-spec variant, Exclusive FC of the Comet EV, you will need to spend over Rs. 56,000 more compared to the previous model. This electric hatchback’s electric motor will produce maximum power of 42 bhp and 110 Nm of torque. The top variant now comes decorated with more features to compete with Tata Tiago EV.However, the base model, that is the Executive variant, will still be available for purchase at Rs. 5.99 lakh (ex-showroom), similar to before.
