There has nothing new to say about passenger cars. But in the market, there is a missing link for both truck and passenger vehicle ,and it is pick-up truck. It allows not only passenger transport but also acts as a medium of goods transportation. Companies like Toyota and Isuzu India have already started selling this type of model in the Indian market. Now, Mahindra is stepping into the same path, as was heard from different sources since few months back. The company recently trademarked Scorpio X in India, that adds a new dimension to the Scorpio pick-up version.
Mahindra’s upcoming vehicle could be the production-ready version of their Global Pik Up concept. It was debuted last year in celebration of India’s Independence Day. Based on Scorpio N SUV, it is expected that this pick-up truck will hit Indian roads in 2025.
The Global Pik Up concept model was showcased in South Africa last year, featuring various design elements from Scorpio N. Its taillight is also inspired by the first-generation Scorpio. The production version is expected to come to India under the name Scorpio X, according to various reports.
The new generation mHawk diesel engine might power the Mahindra Scorpio X. It could offer both six-speed manual and automatic transmissions, along with a possible four-wheel-drive system. The 2.2-liter diesel engine is expected to produce 172 HP and 400 Nm torque.
Noteworthy features include six airbags, sunroof, semi-automatic parking, advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) in the second phase, 5G connectivity, Harman audio system, and various drive modes. The price of Mahindra Scorpio X in India could range from 12 to 22 lakhs INR (ex-showroom). It will compete against Toyota Hilux and Isuzu D-Max V-Cross in the market.
